Some trips you organise. Some trips you want to ride yourself. A Legendary Secret is the second kind.
When I left Nairobi in 2007, I had no idea that ride would one day grow into a company, let alone a journey other people would want to cycle. I wanted to see Africa as it is: under my own power, no engine, no air-conditioned bus, no filter. Savannah, dust, rain, hospitality, exhaustion, and at the end, the roar of Victoria Falls you can hear long before you arrive.
Twenty years later, I'm cycling that route again. Not because I have to, but because some journeys never fully let you go. And because I believe the best way to offer this trip to others is to ride it myself again — beside you, not from behind a desk.
What exactly is A Legendary Secret?
35 days. 5 countries: Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. 28 riding days that take you from the tea plantations of Kenya to the savannahs of Tanzania, past the crystal-clear lakes of Malawi, through the remote valleys of Zambia, all the way to the thunder of Victoria Falls.
This isn't a luxury trip. It isn't a survival trip either. It's what we call semi-supported: your luggage is transported for you, so you can focus on riding — but nobody pushes you up that mountain. Every climb, every headwind, every long day in the saddle, you ride yourself. That's a deliberate choice. The adventure lives in exactly that piece of discomfort we don't take away.
What we do provide: a medical team travelling with us, fixed lunch stops on every riding day, and a support team I've now worked with for 15 years. People who know these routes inside out, who know when you need a break and when you simply need to keep riding. That combination — your effort, their experience — is what makes this feel like a genuine expedition, without ever leaving you on your own.
This isn't a trip for anyone looking for a relaxed cycling holiday. 28 riding days demand serious physical preparation and a mindset that goes beyond "I enjoy cycling." But for those who are ready, A Legendary Secret offers something no short trip ever could: the feeling that you have truly crossed Africa. Under your own power. On your own wheels.
Twenty years ago, I rode this route to find out what I was capable of. This time, I'm riding it to show you.
A Legendary Secret. Because some things are too good to keep to yourself — but too special to shout about.
