What if you could cycle through Kenya — without ever having to rush, while soaking in the culture and crossing paths with wildlife?

Mystery Fields is the trip for the explorer. Here you ride 40 to 60 kilometres a day, at a pace that suits you. No exhausting distances, no stress — just you, your bike, and the freedom to stop whenever you like.

Discover Kenya at your own pace.
You don't need to be a seasoned long-distance cyclist, but regular cycling and a basic level of fitness are required. This isn't a trip to learn how to ride — it's a trip to discover Kenya without pushing past your limits. And while you explore, our team is with you every step of the way: guidance, a support vehicle, a mechanic, and first aid, always close by.

Along the way, you breathe in the culture: we camp alongside local communities, getting to know Kenya as it truly is. No tourist shows, just real connections: stories around the campfire, laughing children, and the warmth of people who welcome you with open arms. Camping here isn't a compromise — it's part of the discovery, and there's no closer way to connect with the people and the land.

And yes, the chances of spotting wildlife are high — because this is Kenya, where every bend can bring a surprise: a herd of zebra, a giraffe in the distance, or a troop of monkeys crossing your path.

Every kilometre is a discovery. Whether it's a hidden trail, a breathtaking view, or simply the feeling of the wind in your hair — here, it's all about the moment.

Who is this trip for?
Mystery Fields is made for explorers: experienced cyclists who'd rather discover than endure, and who want to experience Kenya at their own pace. No extreme fitness required, just a taste for discovering the world by bike — with an experienced team behind you every step of the way.

So: are you ready to discover Kenya your way? No rush, no pressure — just adventure, culture, and wildlife.

Frequently asked questions

Physical preparation

Mystery Fields is our entry-level trip: somewhat lighter than our other trips in Kenya, but definitely not meant for people who never cycle. You'll ride between 40 and 60 km a day, 5 days in a row, which gives this trip its own level of challenge. What sets it apart from our other trips? Here you ride at your own pace: you can look around, stop when you like, and really take the time to explore.
We recommend training for time in the saddle, not just distance. Being able to comfortably cover the daily riding distance, with room to spare, is a good starting point, but just as important is being able to do this several days in a row. Build your training around consecutive long rides, so your body gets used to the fatigue that builds up day after day.
On our trips, everyone rides at their own pace. Groups naturally form around similar speeds, and there's always a rider from our team at the back of the pack. So you can ride alone if you prefer, but you can also always stay with one of our team members. And if it really isn't working out? No problem: our support vehicle is always there for you to hop in for a while

Bike & gear

For Kenya, we recommend a mountain bike. Although the terrain alternates between paved and unpaved, there can still be some tough sections. Front suspension is recommended, and full suspension adds extra comfort. Make sure your bike is in full working order before departure, nothing is more frustrating than a broken bike on the road.
Yes. For Mystery Fields, this costs €250. Our bikes are Thompson brand and undergo full maintenance before and after every trip, so they're always in top condition at departure.
Yes, a mechanic is present for the entire trip.

Health & safety

Contact your doctor for this, everyone's situation is different. We do cycle through malaria areas on this trip, so we recommend bringing malaria tablets. Insect repellent with at least 50% DEET will be your best friend on this trip.
Yes, including repatriation cover.
We always have a designated first-aid responsible with us. Minor incidents are handled by this person directly; for more serious incidents, we go to local hospitals and arrange repatriation, which is exactly why insurance is required. Our team knows exactly how to handle these situations, and a careful rider usually never needs them.
Check with your doctor, who can assess this best. Do always let us know about any medical condition you have, so we can prepare as well as possible. We'll also be upfront: this is a physically demanding trip, and even the support vehicle isn't always comfortable, think this through carefully before signing up.

Practical & logistics

We take care of you from the moment you land in Nairobi. If you land on an evening flight, we arrange a taxi to a hotel, and our driver picks you up the next morning for the transfer to the start. If you land in the morning, we pick you up directly from the airport.
You let us know your flight details, and we pass them on to our drivers. They make sure to be on time both for pick-up on arrival and for your departure, so you never miss your flight. We welcome you at the starting lodge for a briefing and to assemble your bike.
Once we're certain the trip will run, we send a payment request for the deposit. Your booking is confirmed once this deposit is paid. At the same time, we send the payment request for the remaining balance, which is due at the latest 2 months before departure.
These are fully explained in our Terms and Conditions.
Our team consists of experienced guides. There's always someone on the bike who knows the route inside out, and someone in the support vehicle. Guidance is provided in English and Dutch. When we bring along volunteers, they're always trained by one of our experienced staff members, so the team always knows what to do in any situation. Sigge and Joel, in fact, each have over 15 years of experience.
Absolutely. Our group is always a great mix of solo travellers and couples or groups of friends. Everyone's welcome, and in the evenings there's always a chance to get to know everyone during group activities, or simply relax in your room. Our trip is an individual group trip: you're welcome to join group activities and ride together, but you don't have to. The choice is entirely yours.

About the destination

Yes, but it's a straightforward e-visa. We're happy to help you with this. Apply at least 3 weeks before departure to make sure everything is in order.
We always plan our trips outside the rainy season, though the occasional tropical shower can never be fully ruled out, it's usually not a big deal. Temperature is harder to predict, as we're sometimes at significant altitude (around 25°C) and sometimes lower, where it can reach 30–35°C. These temperatures feel different in a tropical climate, but it's always manageable.
A helmet is mandatory, along with proper cycling shoes and cycling clothing. In Kenya it is difficult to find spare parts so also bring: water bottles, a derailleur hanger, spare brake pads, a spare chain, 4 inner tubes, spare spokes, a spare tyre, a multitool (ideally with a chain breaker), tyre levers, a small bottle of chain oil, and a mini pump with a puncture repair kit. Optional: a suspension pump and tyre sealant. In short: everything you might need during a multi-day trip.
Yes. This comes with an administrative fee of €100, must be reported at least 2 weeks before departure, and the new participant must meet our participation requirements (18+, in good physical condition, etc.).
