Adventure Bike Trails

Preparation guide

Prepare your trip

How to prepare for your trail.

Physical preparation

We always say that you should be able to cycle the distance of the trip before departure. For example: for the Kenya Bike Trail, you should be able to cycle 100 km before departure, on multiple consecutive days. Saddle time is key - your body needs to adapt to prolonged cycling. Try to train on unpaved surfaces (gravel, forest roads) to simulate trail conditions.

Your bike

A reliable mountain bike or gravel bike is the most important piece of equipment for your trip. For Kenya, a mountain bike is essential. For Tanzania, experienced and well-trained cyclists may also complete the route on a gravel bike. We offer high-quality mountain bike rentals, so you can start your adventure without any worries.

If you choose to bring your own bike, be sure to check your airline's baggage policy and pack it in a cardboard bike box for transport.

Have your bike fully serviced 2–3 weeks before departure. This allows enough time to make any necessary adjustments, ensuring everything is in perfect working order. There's nothing more frustrating than dealing with a mechanical issue during your trip.
What to pack - essentials

Medical preparation

Visit your travel clinic 6-8 weeks before departure. Mandatory vaccinations: Yellow Fever. Recommended: Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus, Meningococcal. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended for Kenya and Tanzania - consult your doctor about the most suitable option. Bring extra supplies of all regular medication.

Travel insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance including medical repatriation is mandatory. Ensure your policy covers adventure cycling and medical evacuation from remote areas. Keep your insurance documents easily accessible during the trail.
