The route: from the tea fields of Naivasha to Mount Kenya
The Mystery Fields route starts in Naivasha and takes you through lush tea fields towards Mount Kenya, before returning to Naivasha at a more relaxed pace. Along the way you'll cover between 40 and 60 kilometres a day, spread across 5 riding days — enough to truly feel like you're crossing Kenya, without it turning into an endurance test.
That's exactly what sets this apart from a classic mountain biking trip in Kenya: here, you're not cycling to cover distance — you're cycling to discover. You can stop wherever you like, look around, and simply let the landscape sink in.

Camping during your cycling holiday in Kenya: why that's the whole point
On Mystery Fields, we don't sleep in lodges — we camp along the way, often at a local school or church within a community. That's a deliberate choice, not a compromise.
This trip is entirely built around truly getting to know Kenya. Sleeping right in the middle of a village brings you closer to the local culture and way of life than any lodge ever could. It's a different way of travelling than the traditional safari trip: less spectator, more participant.
And to make that step more accessible: you don't need to buy your own camping gear or lug it onto the plane. We offer tent, sleeping bag, and sleeping mat rental — so you don't have to pack your suitcase with equipment you'll only use once, while still travelling with everything you need.
Language barriers that lead to the best moments
One thing that keeps coming back on this cycling trip through Kenya: the funny, heart-warming moments with local people — often precisely because of a language barrier. On one of our trips, the whole group was invited to a celebration in a village, just to share tea together. Nobody understood a word of what the other was saying. And yet it turned into one of the most memorable breaks of the entire trip — a spontaneous pause from cycling, filled with laughter, gestures, and a festive atmosphere that needed no language at all.
That's not a one-off. On Mystery Fields, we have at least one moment like this most days — sometimes an invitation, sometimes just a chat by the roadside, sometimes a group of kids running alongside your bike.
